Meet Michael - owner and founder

I didn't take the traditional path into video production. For a decade, I managed teams in retail - learning how to lead people, earn trust, and keep things moving no matter what happened. I enjoyed the work for the most part, but it wasn't exactly my calling.

The turning point came when I helped my parents build a home as owner builders. Working along side and learning from some family friends who were tradies, and watching them pour their expertise into every detail, to create something lasting out of nothing. I developed a deep respect for the people who build our world. The sad thing I realised was that almost none of them knew how to show that to the world.

Ever since about year 7, I’d been teaching myself film and visual effects in my spare time. I’d be experimenting with compositing, lightsabers and all that fun stuff - the kind of cinematic work that had fascinated me since I was young. Film had always been a dream I'd put on the shelf. I decided it was time to take it back down.

So I made a bet on myself. I left retail, combined everything I'd learned, and launched Highground Video Productions. After my first few jobs I quickly realised I enjoyed working with tradies the most, so I started to build the business specifically for the construction industry.

The truth is, I noticed a trend. Incredible builders, tradies, and construction businesses doing phenomenal work, completely invisible online and to the rest of the world. They were winning jobs through word-of-mouth alone, underselling themselves against bigger competitors, relying on referrals and underselling. This isn’t because of their skills, but because nobody could see those skills and their business hadn’t built trust.

That's the gap Highground exists to close.

I built a complete system designed around how construction businesses actually grow - starting with social content and ads that build awareness, moving through to a brand story or VSL that earns trust, and anchoring it all with testimonials and impact stories that convert. It's not a one-off video or just random social media content, but rather a fully proven strategy that has yet to fail.

The results speak for themselves. After working with Dave from Revest Properties, he went on to have his biggest year in business yet, he even expanded his team to bring a second crew on board. That kind of growth is what gets me out of bed in the morning.
